Dr. Gail Weingast Has Helped Establish the Future of Radiological Medicine

June 20, 2019

It would seem to be a shock that being a doctor was apparently not Gail Weingast’s first career choice. At the very least, her education makes it clear she didn’t see it as a calling. How do we know this? It’s because her first educational accomplishment was the Bachelor’s degree in Spanish she obtained from Tufts University way back in 1968, are than a half century ago. She certainly made up for lost time soon after that, given that she became a medical student at the Boston University School of Medicine. That was when she officially earned the right to be called Dr. Gail Weingast, MD. That was in 1976.

In many ways, it is hard to believe it took her so long to find her calling. These days, Dr. Gail Weingast is considered by many experts in the field as one of the top radiology specialists in the country. She has now been at William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich, Connecticut for about a quarter-century, and in that time she has become that facility’s Chief of Ultrasound and Breast Imaging and turned that department into one of the best in the country, of not the world.
